Phillip Island, Australia Cruise Port

First colonized in the early 19^th century, Phillip Island is a naturally alluring island less than 100 miles south of Melbourne. While today it may be best known as a Grand Prix Circuit location—and has been since 1928—the island has much more to offer. The pristine, sandy beaches and clear water shores highlight the area’s tropical setting while its peaceful wetlands illustrate the island’s unique diversity. Definitely a summertime locale, Phillip Island’s population quadruples from the winter to summer months. While more than half the land is devoted to farming, particularly grazing areas for sheep and cattle, there is a vibrant resort area in the center of town that welcomes tourists by the boatload. Cruise ships don’t dock directly on the island, but smaller boats are happy to bring ashore an endless supply of visitors. With all its natural wonders, Phillip Island’s most popular export might be the famous Hemsworth brothers, who grew up there.
