If stopping at one of the top 10 scuba diving sites in the world is a bit of heaven, then cruising to the port of Coron, Philippines will make your heart beat faster. Coron is in the province of Palawan and the largest town on Busuanga Island, which is located within the Calamian Archipelago that separates the South China Sea from the Sulu Sea. With warm temperatures all year long, clear waters, and a plethora of interesting sea life, there's plenty for visitors to enjoy. For military and history buffs, there’s a sunken World War II Japanese supply fleet scattered around Coron Island, downed in September 1944. Taking a dip in Barracuda Lake? For snorkeling, swimming, or just taking amazing photographs, Kayangan Lake ranks as one of Coron's most popular areas. There is some climbing involved to get there, but once you arrive, the sight is breathtaking. Excellent underwater visibility and the famous limestone walls also make this a must-see attraction.
If you like views but spending all day climbing isn't as interesting, Mt. Tapyas is a great solution. At only 680 feet high, there is a staircase to get you to the top made up of around 725 steps. Once there, you'll have a spectacular view of Coron, the island, and the sea.
The powdery white sands of Banol Beach are a common stop during shore excursions; this small beach is a great place for lunch and to sunbathe. Swimming and snorkeling are also a favorite pastime here, with plenty of sea life ranging from coral to sharks.
For some relaxation after a day full of activities, check out the Maquinit Hot Spring. This gets very hot – temperatures can reach about 104 degrees Fahrenheit (40 Celsius) – but this saltwater spring will ease all those muscle kinks.
