Cavalaire-sur-mer, France Cruise Port

Cavalaire-sur-Mer shares a name with Cavalaire Bay in which it rests and is a commune in southern France with a modest population around 6,500. The commune is best known for being one of the beach landing sites of Operation Dragoon when the Allies invaded southern France a few months after the D-Day invasion. Its port is located on the Mediterranean coast in the French department of Var and welcomes a select number of ships every year. While most ships don’t dock directly in the harbor, they are permitted to drop anchor in the serene waters off the coast. Beautiful sandy beaches line the miles of coastline between the sea and picturesque Maures hills. Other shoreline activities include snorkeling, swimming, and diving close to the bay for the best look into the depths. Further out, tourists are known to enjoy jet-skiing and deep-sea fishing.

• Plage de Bonporteau is a small intimate beach surrounded by relaxing wilderness, cool, still waters, and numerous paths perfect for hiking or scaling some larger hills.
   
• The calming Sentier du Fenouillet offers the most serene scenery and pleasant walks as you pass unique and delightful Mediterranean flora and fauna.
   
• Escape to a comforting creek surrounded by untapped nature at La calanque de la Cron. This secluded spot is brimming with various trees, plants, and crystal clear waters.
   
• The Port de Cavalaire, while not docking cruise ships, does have room for upwards of 1,200 smaller boats, many of which can be rented out for fishing, parasailing, water skiing, or other aquatic activities.
