Abidjan, Ivory Coast Cruise Port
The former capital and the Ivory Coast’s largest city, Abidjan, Africa exudes a European ambiance. The city is also one of the world’s largest French-speaking areas, perhaps contributing to its reputation as the “Paris of Africa”. Today, Abidjan is known for its exporting of agricultural products such as timber, bananas, pineapples, manganese, coffee and cocoa. Sitting on the Ebire Lagoon, Abidjan consists of several peninsulas that are all connected by bridges. Walk about Le Plateau where you may pass a flea market or two, perfect for browsing the local’s goods. St. Paul’s Cathedral is one of the major landmarks in Abidjan, built for the Pope in 1985 and symbolizing the form of Jesus through structures resembling elephant tusks.
