Photo Highlight
No one would expect operating a cruise ship to be easy, but it may surprise you to find out just how massive and challenging the task really is. This month's photo highlight was submitted by Jen C. of The Cruise Web and showcases the navigation equipment used on modern cruise ships. Jen is one of several employees that have gone behind-the-scenes at sea.

Behind-the-Scenes
Having just returned from an exciting and successful weekend in Utah, winning the National Auto Sport Association's National Championship in the BMW SpecE30 class, I have been asked by our Cruise Web newsletter team to write a behind-the-scenes report about capturing the championship. Here is a look at the week, key tactics and strategies that led to the title.
Plan ahead, then have a plan B, and even a plan C!
Plan A for me was to have my local DriveGear racing team bring my sweetly tuned #87 car out to Salt Lake City for the big event. However, team owners Jon and Andrew and their wives, both decided to have babies this very month, and further, refused to ask the stork to hold delivery for another month.
Plan B found last year's National runner-up, Steve, with a speedy backup red #92 car. Yet, despite a signed contract, "Little Red" decided to blow a motor three weeks before the dance. Being the thoughtful and honorable man that he is, Steve helped me line up my Plan C ride – a black BMW from team PFB Performance.
Be ready for adversity!
Showing up at the track with all the car's equipment and all my driving skills perfectly tuned is not the way it works. Au contraire...  Read More»

Ellicia Ayers
Accounting Coordinator
Favorite Itinerary: Canadian Rockies Cruise tour
Pets: Two cats named Bouncer and Romeo
Hobbies: Photography, camping, bike riding fishing, anything and everything outdoors
Favorite Teams: Pittsburgh Steelers and Penguins
In keeping with our "Behind-the-Scenes" theme, this month we introduce you to Ellicia Ayers, our Accounting Coordinator. Ellicia has worked behind the scenes at The Cruise Web for 6 years now. Currently, Ellicia works hard to make sure that your payments are processed efficiently and securely with the cruise lines. Although you may only speak to your cruise consultant, nearly every booking at The Cruise Web goes through Ellicia's desk. Her attention to detail and passion for working with numbers makes her a valuable asset to The Cruise Web. She came to us as a Customer Service Rep, was then promoted to Operation Coordinator and now has moved into our Accounting Department. Ellicia ensures that your bookings are paid properly and on time.
"I heard about The Cruise Web from a friend who was a Cruise Consultant here" Ellicia explains. "They told me it's a great place to work, the people are friendly, and there are lots of good opportunities to travel." Since coming to The Cruise Web, Ellicia has traveled to the Canadian Rockies, Canada/New England, the Caribbean and the Florida Keys. Ellicia's travels have also helped her hone her photography skills. You can see some of her pictures in our Photo Gallery.
What's next on Ellicia's travel wish list? "I definitely want to do Alaska and then Australia and New Zealand. But Alaska is my dream vacation." And when Ellicia is not crunching numbers at The Cruise Web, her new house that she bought last year takes up every waking moment. Currently, with the weather being so nice, she is working on the outdoor projects, "I just tore down an old fence and put a new one up. Also working on removing gravel from my driveway."

My All-Access Cruise Ship Tour
By Jen C., Senior Cruise Consultant
Have you ever wondered how a cruise ship works? Where do they store all the food? How do the chefs prepare that much food? How does all the laundry get done? How do you navigate a ship that large?
While on a cruise aboard the Norwegian Jewel, I had the opportunity to participate in a backstage tour of the vessel. After a warm welcome from the Hotel Director, we were escorted to a crew elevator, which took us down to the lowest deck of the ship. Our first stop was the garbage facility. Wow, I thought sorting recycling at home was bad, on the cruise ship every single piece of trash is sorted. Organic waste, paper, plastic...
