Photo Highlight
There's nothing quite like the thrill of exploration or the excitement of a new discovery. This month's photo highlight comes from Rosalind S. of The Cruise Web and was taken during her very own exploration of China. Throughout her expedition, Rosalind discovered breathtaking architecture, stunning gardens and ancient sculptures. This sculpture depicts a lion that guards the tomb of an ancient emperor.

Exploration & Discovery
I recently had the pleasure of spending time with my one year old niece and her slightly older brother. After a while, I found my cheeks sore from smiling and laughing, watching them have fun. They weren't playing video games or watching movies, or even playing with the latest or greatest toy. They were just exploring around and discovering wonder in the simplest things.
"The image in this picture book is just exquisite," could have been what my little niece was thinking, "and the page feels so smooth when I run my hand across it and then back and forth twenty-two times." "I must go show this to my cousins," may have been her next thought as her tiny hands went to grab and rip the page, before Uncle Frans helped re-direct her attention to a floating bubble he just blew. "Bubbaal" came from her smiling lips as she chased and circled the bubble with her head looking straight up, before the dizziness conquered her and her bottom hit the floor.
Her older brother decided it was time to go explore outside. "Wow. Can you believe my good fortune?! Look at this dirty puddle in the middle of nowhere! Uncle Frans probably made this for me to play in to help me decorate my clothes with cool random water stripes and dirt dots." I don't remember if that was my nephew's exact phrasing, but I'm 97% sure that's what he meant... Read More»

Jacques Botty
Senior Cruise Consultant
Favorite Itinerary: Mediterranean, especially Naples and Barcelona
Hobbies: Water sports and deep sea fishing
Favorite Teams: None, prefers to follow athletes like Peyton Manning and Chris Johnson
|
This month's theme of exploration and discovery allows us to spotlight Senior Cruise Consultant Jacques Botty. Jacques was selected not just for his high level of service, but also because he is headed to one of the windiest and coldest continents in the world. Later this month, Jacques will be summoning his inner explorer and traveling to Antarctica. While most people think vacation means fun in the sun, Jacques chose to vacation in Antarctica because "it's one of the least traveled land masses in the world, as less than 200,000 people have ever visited. I'm excited about breaking ice and making at least one landing," explains Jacques. "I hope to see penguins, walruses (or is it walri?) and visit an active research station. Obviously, due to the ever changing conditions in Antarctica, you have to be open to last minute itinerary changes."
When Jacques was studying Business Administration and Marketing at the University of New Orleans, he never thought he would have an opportunity to take a trip like this. Jacques came to The Cruise Web over three years ago, looking for something that would marry his business degree with his love of travel. Besides being an adventure traveler, Jacques likes water sports and deep sea fishing. Jacques looks forward to coming in every day because of the rush that he gets putting his clients on their trip of a lifetime.
Make sure you check out next month's edition of The Current, as Jacques will be publishing a blog of his Antarctica adventure. Happy and safe travels, Jacques!

|
This month we're channeling our inner explorers and looking at ways to re-discover our world. Fortunately for us, many cruise itineraries imitate the routes charted by some of history's greatest explorers. So if you're feeling adventurous, pull out your compass, gather your bearings and set out to recreate these famous explorations. Or just find a cruise that will do the hard part for you - leaving you with all of the fun and none of the scurvy.

A Passion to Explore
By Rosalind Smith, Business Development Manager |
My passion to explore cultures around the world began as a child when my parents took me to a series of outdoor summer cultural festivals in my hometown of Baltimore, MD. This was my introduction to a taste of the world and soon became a running checklist of countries and cultures to explore. I quickly became fascinated with the Far East and, like many Americans, my first exposure to Chinese culture was food, followed by art and jewelry. I soon developed a longing to see the culture first-hand and started planning my own trip.
My journey through China began when...
