Maybe we're in denial about St. Patrick's day being over, or maybe we're just excited to welcome Spring and finally see green plants sprouting out of the cold ground... Either way, we're dedicating this month's newsletter to all things green, from tropical destinations to environmental awareness. Our "Green" photo highlight comes from The Cruise Web's own Jaime F. who took this shot of the green cliffs surrounding Fort San Felipe del Morro in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Manager's Insight
Green is in the Air!
Here we go, heading into spring with a brand new column! I'm Karolina Shenton, I've been with The Cruise Web for almost nine years, am the Marketing and Sales Operations Manager and it's my pleasure to introduce our new Manager's Insight. Each month the Manager's Insight will feature the latest and greatest in what The Cruise Web is doing to keep our company fresh, fun and current. Stay tuned so you can be the first to know where we are going and how we are getting there.
This month's Current is all about green. The cruise lines are constantly updating their practices and ships to minimize their impact on the environment and The Cruise Web is following right along. So with a little brainstorming, we've come up with a few ways that we can be a little kinder to the planet, as we cruise into the future.
All of our email correspondence is not printed whenever possible. Not only does this help us keep everything secure, it saves a lot of paper. For those items that do get printed, we have a scrap paper bin where paper can be reused to help eliminate any unnecessary waste. Several of our employees have started to carpool as well. As we move into April, I'm hoping to convince a few more of my staff to do the same, because here in the Baltimore/Washington area, we do a lot of driving and every gallon counts. One of my team members even rides a motorcycle while another drives a hybrid. You can't get much more fuel efficient than that!
But the most exciting part of this green movement happened this past weekend when Sophie, my 14 month old daughter, showed us how to recycle when she picked up paper and put it in the recycling bin! It just goes to show that green is in the air!

The Cruise Web: Celebrating 17 Years in Business
Employee Profile

Ken Cho: Cruise Consultant
Ken Cho
Cruise Consultant
Favorite Itinerary: South East Asia - specifically Vietnam, Bangkok and Singapore
Pet: Pug named Tinsel (Chainsaw to his guy friends)
Favorite Teams: Da Bears, Da Cubs
Favorite Green Thing: Having a green lawn
There are many reasons that people have chosen to work at The Cruise Web. This month's Employee Profile, Ken Cho, may be the only person who took a job as a Cruise Consultant to travel less.
A Chicago native, Ken spent many years as a government contractor. It was his job to travel overseas to sell furniture to government agencies. That job took him around the world, and he's stayed in cities throughout Europe, Africa, Asia, South America and the United States. "My friends would joke that I was a spy, and that selling furniture was my cover," jokes Ken. Eventually his need to be closer to home (and his wife), as well as the urging of a friend who works at The Cruise Web (see Arthur Balin's profile), brought him into the world of cruise travel. "My extensive travel background really gives my clients an advantage when they work with me." His favorite place so far has been Tokyo, Japan. "It's just such a clash of culture; different people, different behaviors. Yet Tokyo is one of the safest cities in the world."
Ken seems to have found a great fit with The Cruise Web. Not as much travel (at least the travel now is on a cruise), close to his home in Annapolis, Maryland and he gets to do what he loves, creating awesome cruise experiences for his clients. "My favorite call to make during my day is the 'Welcome Back' call. It gives me great satisfaction when my clients return from their cruise and can tell me all about the great time they had. I love the feedback."
The Current Spotlight: Green is Great!
By The Cruise Web, Inc.
Appropriately I am writing about green on St Patrick's Day and everyone around me is sporting their finest green ware. When they asked me to write about the color green, I am not sure they knew it was my favorite color, but, really, what's not to love?

Green Cruising
By Ken Cho, Cruise Consultant
As a consumer and inhabitant of this planet, I'm always interested in the conservation movement and alternative or renewable sources of energy. That includes when I go on vacation and travel abroad. Practices in countries like Japan where conservation and "green" methods and products are part of everyday life have always impressed me. Ever since I began my career as a cruise consultant with The Cruise Web, I've wanted to know what the cruise lines do to help foster such practices.
As many of you experienced cruisers and travelers already know, water conservation on ships is a huge deal...
