Lights! Camera! Cruise! No, this isn't a shot from a cruise ship during the 1950's. This is actually a shot from 2008 when our own Tim H. was invited to see the (then brand new) Celebrity Solstice.
The show was about the last night of an old theater and to pay it tribute, the theater performers reminisced about (and acted out) all of their favorite past performances.

Patrons of New York City's famous Tavern on the Green restaurant may have read this month that the city just won a legal battle to use the rights to this famous name when it plans to re-open the refurbished venue in Central Park this year.
It was several years ago at Tavern on the Green that I first realized how much some people love shows. After putting our names on page one hundred and something of the guest list, my ex-wife and I were shuffled up the stairs to a tiny window-less waiting loft with bar, that seemed to be holding upwards of 50 guests. Descriptions aside, it was quite a charming experience. Overtaken by the infectious spirit of the place, we starting speaking with the delightful couple seated on our laps...excuse me...I meant to say "seated at the table next to us."
We compared stories of the grand times we were having in the Big Apple, when the couple told us that they were on day two of a "Show Marathon." They would see two or more shows on and off Broadway per day, for the next five days! Now, I do love a good show as much or more than a charming overcrowded loft waiting area, but I realized quite immediately here that I was no match for these professional show lovers. Still, their enthusiasm was so powerful, that the next 45 minutes of waiting for a table passed as though the word 'claustrophobia' didn't even exist.

Raquel Grinnell
Cruise Consultant
Pets: 2 tanks of African cichlids and African Leaf Fish, and a cat named PK (stands for Psycho Kitty)
Favorite Itinerary: Eastern Caribbean, partial to St. Thomas (that's where she got married) |
Favorite Entertainment Form: Stand-Up Comedy
|
For this month's profile we have selected Raquel Grinnell. This three year Cruise Web veteran and self-proclaimed "military brat" grew up on military bases all over the world including Spain, Italy, Germany, England and the US. Raquel's parents met when her father was on his first military tour, stationed at Torrejon AFB outside of Madrid. This is the start of Raquel and her family's world travel experience.
Because of Raquel's background, travel has always been a big part of her life. But her passion for cruising didn't develop until she got married. "I was planning a big extravagant land wedding, when my father, who was worried about the price tag, made me an offer" Raquel explains, "I can have a really expensive wedding OR I can have a more intimate wedding and $10,000 towards our first house." What did she do? "I booked my wedding on the Golden Princess."
Her wedding in St. Thomas was a smashing success and after that Raquel was addicted to cruising. She booked all of her family's cruises from that point forward; including some through online mega-sites. "I've reserved cruises online on my own, only to find out that a few of them were completely the wrong cruise for me and my family," stated Raquel. "It never occurred to me to consider anything other than the price and itinerary - boy, was I wrong."
So when Raquel joined The Cruise Web, she knew how important it was to help her clients find their perfect cruise. "The reason I'm an asset for my clients is that not only do I have lot travel experience, I know what it's like to try to book a cruise without any help or expertise. That's why I love my job!"

The Current Spotlight: Onboard Mind Enrichment
by The Cruise Web, Inc.
|
Everyone knows that there is plenty of food on a cruise. Most people think of food for the body only. But let's look at food for the brain. There is plenty of that on a cruise, too.
You always mean to set aside time to learn something new, but it's hard to do with a full schedule. A cruise is actually a good time to learn something new.

During a recent seminar at sea onboard Royal Caribbean's Liberty of the Seas attended by myself and several fellow agents, I was lucky enough find out just how much time, money, and sheer sweat goes into the large-scale production shows on a cruise.
By coincidence, on the first day of our cruise one of the agents from my office ran into an old friend of his, Drake DeLucca.
