Manager's Insight
Fitness at Sea!
Since this is my first time writing our Manager's Insight, I'd like to take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Rosalind Smith, I'm Business Development Manager for The Cruise Web and it's my pleasure to kick things off for our Fitness newsletter. Who would have thought? The most non-athletic woman alive has become one with somewhat athletic abilities and has been chosen to introduce our Fitness-themed newsletter and write a "Fit for Cruising" blog.
In the not so distant past, the most athletic adventures I'd ever engaged in were my power musical weekends to New York City, consisting of three Broadway shows, decadent dinners, delightful lunches and countless taxi rides within 48-hours. Then, one July 4th weekend, I suffered an "athletic injury" in an effort to attend an outdoor performance of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. That knee injury started my journey into an active and healthy lifestyle. Cycling (specifically indoors) became my staple. After feeling and seeing the changes in my body as well as my overall heath, I slowly progressed to strength training, yoga and endurance activities - only to be sidelined by athletic injury #2, the other knee.
Now it's recovery yet again. My collection of high-heel shoes is once again restless and begging to come out and play... Read More»

Lynda Lynn is the perfect example of how the marriage of cruising and fitness actually works! Lynda came to The Cruise Web with a background in marketing and project management. Already an avid traveler, Lynda found the cruise industry to be a perfect "fit."
Lynda loves to stay in shape. Not only does she run a mile and half a day, she's also signed up for a company-sponsored marathon in October. There's a common misconception that cruise vacations are all about stuffing yourself while onboard, so how does someone as fitness-focused as Lynda survive on a cruise? Let's take her last Mediterranean cruise as an example: "I went to the gym as much as I could - the gyms are very, very nice - and I frequently visited the spa. Also, I walked everywhere, especially in port." She joked, "It's easy to over indulge on a cruise - there's so much food and it's all so good."
As for her role here at The Cruise Web, Lynda decided to ditch her marketing background for a more rewarding position as a Cruise Consultant. "The Cruise Web is perfect for me; I love to travel and am impressed with the environment. The people are very focused, but you're selling a product that is interesting and diverse. There are so many different itineraries and cruise lines, and I love talking to and being around people." She likes to remind clients that travel is much more than the logistics; "It's really different for every single person. It's important to have that conversation so that I can match my client with the perfect experience. I've traveled a lot, I've stayed in a variety of accommodations, and I've been to different cultures and different climates, so I think that my experiences can really guide people who are not sure of what they want to do."

Fit for Cruising
By Rosalind Smith, Business Development Manager. |
Cruising and fitness go together like Fred & Ginger (or a movie and popcorn... air popped without butter of course)! There was a time when everyone worried about gaining weight on a cruise vacation. They are still using word processors and those days are long gone.
Is it possible to maintain (or in some cases start) your healthy lifestyle while cruising?
ABSOLUTELY! And just to prove it, we are hosting our very own fitness theme cruise, FIT FOR CRUISING, aboard the Liberty of the Seas. On January 26, 2012, weight gain is one thing our guests need not worry about...
