Photo Highlight
There's nothing quite like a themed cruise, and this should come as no surprise since themed cruises can combine the collective passions and interests of hundreds, or thousands, of cruisers. This month's photo highlight represents the popular Mardi Gras theme - a fitting reminder that the Mardi Gras celebration is just around the corner.

President's Message
Happy Valentine's Day!
This month's Current is all about theme cruising. Since I am writing this President's Message on Valentine's Day, I've decided to make Love the theme of my message.
Judith Johnson, author of The Wedding Ceremony Planner, writes that many people believe that "to love another" is the "highest expression and experience we can attain in life." Whether it's love for family, friends, or a lover, love is so powerful and wonderful, that it's hard to argue against this view.
Still, Ms. Johnson argues that love is easily misunderstood. When we fall in love, we often attach our love to characteristics about the object of our love. We love the looks, status, or career of a person, and thus we "love" that person. Less obviously, we love someone because of their great personality. We can "fall" in love almost instantly when we see these things that so attract us, almost like a chemical reaction.
The danger with this sort of love is that as the chemical reaction changes a little, we can start to want to attach more traits, or different traits, to the object of our love...   Read More»

The Cruise Web: Celebrating 17 Years in Business
Employee Profile

Susan Comer: Assistant Manager of Group Administration
Susan Comer
Assistant Manager of Group Administration
Favorite Itinerary: Canada/New England
Hobbies: Traveling, Cooking, Baking, Reading, Line Dancing, Country Music
Pets: Baxter, a black pug
Favorite Teams: NJ Devils
This month's employee profile spotlights The Cruise Web's Assistant Manager of Group Administration, Susan Comer. Susan has been with The Cruise Web for seven years, after moving to the DC area from New Jersey. The Cruise Web was a natural fit for Susan and it allowed her to use her Travel and Tourism Management BA from Johnson and Wales in Providence, RI. Over the years, Susan has seen our Groups Department grow to more than double its size in the past five years. That growth has brought a lot of fun and interesting challenges. "I love my job because every day is something different," states Susan. "I've been able to work with so many wonderful clients over the years."
It's not just the volume of clients that make the job so rewarding, it's the nature of the groups. "I'm not just dealing with someone's cruise, I'm actually dealing with a client's wedding, a family or class reunion or a once in a lifetime trip taken by a group of friends." Susan explains, "We get to work through the details of the trip; make sure the grandparents' room is next to the grandkids' room, make sure there is a table big enough to accommodate everyone in the dining area. It's those details that help make the vacation so special. It's an indescribable feeling that I get when the clients return from their cruise completely satisfied and blown away by their experience."
And when Susan's not at work coordinating group cruises, she's at home with her black pug, Baxter, baking and cooking up a storm. Her favorite meal to cook is meatloaf, which also happens to be her favorite singer (just kidding). And her "go to" dessert is molasses cookies, which is a family recipe that was passed down to her by her grandmother.
The Current Spotlight: Theme Cruising
By Sherry Jefferson, Cruise Consultant
Theme cruising is a way to bring together people who share common interests, hobbies and passions, and combine it with the cruise experience. A theme cruise is an excellent way to meet others who share your interests and passion on a particular subject. Most groups dine together at dinner time, so you'll have a chance to really get to know others in the group.

Health, Wellness and Wine
By Rosalind Smith,
Business Development Manager
Themed cruises are an integration of lifestyle, hobbies or special interests and cruising. The list of themes is endless and includes health and fitness, every genre of music, games, tournaments, ballroom dancing, singles, and food & wine - the latter of which I had a chance to experience like never before during my "Zinners in Paradise" themed cruise.
"Zinners in Paradise" remains one of my all-time favorite cruises. As a long-time wine enthusiast, I was delighted with anticipation to set sail aboard the Paul Gauguin to indulge in the integration of robust red zinfandels...
