New Ship Updates for Seabourn and Norwegian Cruise Line

By The Cruise Web, Inc.

The Norwegian Escape Rendering courtesy of Norwegian Cruise Line.Norwegian Cruise Line just launched their latest ship, the Norwegian Getaway, to much fanfare. And it seems Norwegian Cruise Line is responding to customer demand caused by the great reviews received by the Getaway and her sister ship the Breakaway. It is with much excitement that Norwegian Cruise Line’s headquarters announced that their next ship, the Norwegian Escape, will be home ported in Miami with the Getaway. On top of that, the cruise line was able to show pictures of the hull design for the ship.

The hull will be designed by Guy Harvey, a marine wildlife artist. Harvey uses his former life as a marine biologist as inspiration for his art. He also started the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation to support ocean conservation.

The hull will be designed with the images of sea creatures and Harvey hopes it brings attention to endangered marine animals. “The large scale mural demonstrates the concern and respect that Norwegian and I have for the marine environment through which this ship will travel over the years,” Harvey said. Defining Luxury Cruising

A compilation by The Cruise Web employees.

Popping Open a Bottle of ChampagneLuxury is hard to define; it’s not a tangible thing. It’s  sometimes seen as extra special care and attention, or a high quality product made with precious materials. It can be defined by some as a feeling of being treated like royalty and knowing you are in good hands. There is no singular definition, but it’s something you know when you see or experience it. To help us define what luxury cruising is, a few of our Cruise Web cruise consultants and staff share stories of the luxury experiences they and their clients have had.

We’ve also added a few facts in the article about what kind of services are offered on a luxury cruise. These are the passages in italics.

Julie A.
“The most luxurious moment for me was popping open a bottle of champagne at midnight with my family on the pool deck celebrating New Year’s Eve!!”

In fact, on many luxury cruise lines, drinks from the bar are included in the price, making a celebration that much more enjoyable.

Cruise Web Manager Experiences the Brand New Seabourn Quest with Mom

By The Cruise Web, Inc.

Karolina Shenton, The Cruise Web’s Manager of Marketing and Sales Operations, recently returned from an inaugural celebration aboard the brand new Seabourn Quest. Fortunately, we were able to steal enough of Karolina’s time to have her tell us about her inaugural experience, first-hand:

Karolina and her mom aboard the Quest“I recently had the opportunity to experience Seabourn’s newest ship the Quest, on her inaugural voyage from Rome (Civitavecchia) to Monte Carlo. What made this voyage even more exciting was that my mom flew in from Poland to join me!

There we were, mother and daughter aboard one of the most beautiful and well appointed ships at sea. When I first boarded, I was taken by the red carpet and champagne welcome we received by the amazing staff. Not only were we told where to find our suite; a staff member personally escorted us there. In all my cruising, that is the first time I’ve had a personal escort to my suite. [Read more →]

Virtuoso Advisors Again Pick Seabourn Yachts As Best Small Ships

Courtesy of Seabourn

The over 6,000 luxury travel advisors who make up the prestigious Virtuoso Travel Network selected The Yachts of Seabourn as the Best Small-Ship Cruise Line for the second consecutive year. The 2009 repeat award was presented on August 20 at an awards dinner during the consortium’s annual Travel Mart in Las Vegas.

“This honor from the Virtuoso advisors really does have a special significance for us,” said Pamela C. Conover, Seabourn’s president and CEO, “because it represents the unique relationship we share with our professional partners. In a way, nobody knows our company better than do professionals like the Virtuoso advisors, who recommend us to their clients and put their own reputations on the line along with ours,” she continued. “When they tell us we’re the best, it truly means a lot.”

“We always appreciate and highly respect our advisors’ picks for Virtuoso’s annual Peer-to-Peer awards,” said Virtuoso CEO Matthew Upchurch, CTC. “The Yachts of Seabourn was awarded this top honor for a reason: They deliver innovation and top quality products as evidenced by the new Seabourn Odyssey. The Network shares this high level of excitement as shown by sailings with each more than 100 guests during the inaugural year and maiden world cruise. On behalf of Virtuoso, I congratulate the entire Seabourn team for their achievement.”

Since Seabourn won last year’s Virtuoso award, the company’s fleet of intimate, all-suite vessels have gone on to garner the top spot in the small-ship category in the 2008 Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Poll and to be voted the World’s Best Small Ship Cruise Line in Travel + Leisure’s annual World’s Best Awards. During that same interval, Seabourn launched the 225-suite Seabourn Odyssey, the first new ultra luxury vessel to debut in over six years, which has been hailed as “a game-changer” for the luxury cruising segment. A second new vessel, Seabourn Sojourn, will debut in 2010 and another yet-to-be-named sister in 2011.
