Flash Mob Captured Aboard Royal Caribbean’s Liberty of the Seas
On November 20, 2011, members of Royal Caribbean’s Sales Team were caught participating in a “flash mob” aboard the Liberty of the Seas. Front and center among the participants was Bob Rose, Business Development Manager for Royal Caribbean International. Participants found time during their work breaks to practice their moves in preparation for the surprise dance party, linked below.

Silversea Offers Guests Exclusive ‘Grand Prix de Monaco’ Tour

Guests sailing on the nearly sold-out Silver Spirit voyage of 24 May 2012 are in for a special treat. Silversea is offering an optional two-day “70th Grand Prix de Monaco” land package.
Silver Spirit guests will have the opportunity to experience the thrill of a Formula One race at the Monaco Grand Prix during the ship’s overnight visit on 26 May. On Saturday, guests will enjoy witnessing the time trials (practice runs for the drivers and their cars) from Tribune K reserved seats. From this section of the grandstand, guests will see cars racing towards them at tremendous speed, slow down, and then accelerate, before making the next turn. In the evening, guests attend an invitation-only cocktail reception hosted by the ship’s captain and a former Grand Prix driver, followed by a themed dinner of Mediterranean and Monegasque cuisine served in La Terrazza. Kicking off the New Year, The Gauguin’s first theme sailing is on February 11, 2012, to Tahiti & the Society Islands and will feature Daniel Baron, winemaker for Silver

Mr. Baron was hand-selected to succeed Justin Meyer as winemaker in 1994 by the co-founder himself and since then has carried out the winery’s commitment of making only the finest Cabernet Sauvignon. Each bottle of Silver Oak is aged for nearly five years in American oak barrels, then in bottles so that it is “deliciously drinkable from the day it is released.” Mr. Baron will lead a tasting with cruising guests and will also present a lecture aboard the ship detailing his journey to winemaker, including his master’s studies in viticulture and explorations of France’s great wine regions.

When I was asked to write this article, the marketing folks at The Cruise Web handed me a loaded question: “what’s in store for the future of cruising?”
I’m not a seer with additional insight into the industry and the “future” can mean so many different things. Really, I’m still waiting for the flying cars I was promised 30 years ago. So I think we have to temper any predictions for the “future” of cruising with a foundation of reality but liberally laced with bits of fancy.
