The Seven Sins of Cruising
While going on a cruise is definitely an angelic experience, we all know that sometimes when we’re on vacation we let some of our normal inhibitions go, which can lead to some “sinful” behavior. As they say, what happens at sea stays at sea. Don’t worry though, a cruise is meant for you to loosen up and let go of your inhibitions. Let’s see how many of these “sins” sound familiar to you.
Sloth – (n.) habitual disinclination to exertion; indolence; laziness.
If sloth is your favorite cruising sin, you will relish the chance to lie by the pool all day waiting for the waiters to come around with those fun and flirty drinks, enjoy a full body massage plus a mani and a pedi, or just lounge on your balcony all day with room service stopping by for breakfast, lunch or dinner. And if you tire of being a sloth, plenty of onboard activities and adventures await you.
Our favorite: Choosing to use the ship’s elevator, even when you are going up one floor. C’mon, we’ve all done it. [Read more →]

Seven Steps to Cruise Sainthood
Now that we have uncovered all the “sinful” behaviors many cruisers indulge in during their vacations, here are some tips on how to have a good time, while keeping those sins at the dock. This post will tell you how to avoid each “sin,” but of course it’s your vacation, so don’t do anything that wouldn’t make you happy.
Sloth – Just because you are on a ship does not mean you are in cramped quarters. There is plenty of space to move around, so get up out of bed and get moving cause there are a lot of things to see and do on your vacation.
- Go for a climb at the rock wall. Many ships have rock-climbing walls where you not only get a great workout, but a fantastic view.
- Shake your bon-bon. Cruise lines offer a wide array of body moving dance opportunities, like Zumba classes at the gym, Salsa lessons from the ship’s staff, and at night you can freestyle it at the ship’s club.
- See the sights. When you are in port, get out and see the city or town you are in on a walking tour or scenic hike. Just remember to bring your camera. [Read more →]

Cruise Cost Breakdown: Comparing a Luxury Cruise to a Premium Cruise
The experience of a luxury cruise is beyond compare. The service, the intimate ships and the ultra-fine amenities are something everyone should experience at least once. However, many people don’t give themselves the opportunity to experience a luxury cruise because the cost of such a trip seems too expensive. Well, get ready to have your mind blown, because we are here today to tell you that you shouldn’t be afraid of the cost of a luxury cruise. In fact, that price is a lot friendlier than you think.
As you read on we will compare the price of a luxury cruise to a cruise on a premium cruise line. We’ve compared two 7-night Alaska cruises that set sail in May 2013. Before we even start comparing financials, there is the sheer size of the ships. With a premium ship you will be sailing with roughly 3,000 others. With a luxury ship you are sailing with between 200 to 500 other passengers. The intimacy of a smaller ship means less waiting in lines, more attention to your needs. The luxury ships also allow for a better guest-to-staff ratio. On luxury cruises you might find one staff member to every 1.4 passengers, whereas premium is about 1 staff member to every two guests. It may not sound like much, but it makes a huge difference on board.
Check our our value comparison below, and then continue reading for a more detailed breakdown of the costs.

Defining Luxury Cruising
A compilation by The Cruise Web employees.
Luxury is hard to define; it’s not a tangible thing. It’s sometimes seen as extra special care and attention, or a high quality product made with precious materials. It can be defined by some as a feeling of being treated like royalty and knowing you are in good hands. There is no singular definition, but it’s something you know when you see or experience it. To help us define what luxury cruising is, a few of our Cruise Web cruise consultants and staff share stories of the luxury experiences they and their clients have had.
We’ve also added a few facts in the article about what kind of services are offered on a luxury cruise. These are the passages in italics.
Julie A.
“The most luxurious moment for me was popping open a bottle of champagne at midnight with my family on the pool deck celebrating New Year’s Eve!!”
In fact, on many luxury cruise lines, drinks from the bar are included in the price, making a celebration that much more enjoyable.

Scuba, Sail and Surf On Your Next Cruise
By Jacques Botty, Senior Cruise Consultant, The Cruise Web, Inc.
Ever since I was a young child, I grew up fascinated by both water and world travel, and this is why I chose to work at The Cruise Web. It all started when I took my first leap in a pool. I was 4 years old and at a pool party. There were a ton of other children, the sun was blazing hot and the water perfectly cool; the kids were swimming and they looked like they were having so much fun. So I thought, “hey, why not just jump in without telling my parents!” (I figured this way they couldn’t stop me.) Well I jumped into the deep end and quickly sank to the bottom of the pool. I looked up and noticed the sun gleaming down and that I was quickly out of breath. Fortunately, my dad saw me and I was lifted out and escorted to the shallow side. On that thrilling afternoon my love for the water was born. [Read more →]
