The world’s most revolutionary cruise ship will offer guests more variety and flexibility than ever before, thanks to 24 distinct dining experiences, ranging from an exclusive signature restaurant, to neighborhood-specific themed venues and new twists on the global brand’s traditions.
“Oasis of the Seas showcases the evolution of Royal Caribbean dining,” said Adam Goldstein, president and CEO, Royal Caribbean International. “Both the new concepts and the established Royal Caribbean offerings found throughout the neighborhoods are designed to meet contemporary dining standards, cater to individual preferences and schedules and foster epicurean curiosity. With so many options, guests could choose a new place to dine for every meal.”

Royal Caribbean Wins The Clean Sea Award
Courtesy of Royal Caribbean
Royal Caribbean proudly announced that it received the first ever “Clean Sea Award.” The award was announced at the Clean Shipping Awards ceremony held during the Nor-Shipping Conference (Oslo, June 9-12), presented in cooperation with Det Norske Veritas (DNV). In total, 60 companies were considered for the various awards and winners were selected by an independent jury.
Royal Caribbean won the award in recognition of its superior efforts to limit discharges from ship to sea. In 1992, Royal Caribbean established the widely renowned Save The Waves® program, to ensure crew and guests are directly engaged in our environmental management efforts. Royal Caribbean International’s Oasis of the Seas, which launches at the end of the year and with a passenger capacity of 8,400, will have a higher standard of waste treatment than that of the most stringent global guidelines.
“Royal Caribbean is honored to be recognized for our efforts to minimize our environmental footprint, contribute to conservation and set new standards of environmental stewardship in the shipping industry,” said Jamie Sweeting, vice president of Environmental Stewardship and Global Chief Environmental Officer for Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. “As an industry we have a special responsibility to protect our marine ecosystems, because clean waters are good for the environment, good for our guests and good for our business.”
The launch of the Clean Shipping Awards corresponded with this year’s Nor-Shipping Opening Conference titled “From Crisis to Opportunity: Shipping’s Role in the Fight against Climate Change”. The conference brought together leading industry voices representing ship owners, cargo owners and regulators to discuss climate change. During the opening conference, Richard D. Fain, chairman and chief executive officer of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd., spoke on the importance of making sure governments, consumers and other industries around the world understand the shipping industry is concerned about climate change and playing its part to minimize its greenhouse gas footprint.
“The Norwegian shipping industry is internationally recognized for being a pioneer in the development of solutions and technologies to manage a broad range of environmental issues,” said Tollef Schieander, director of Nor-Shipping. “The Clean Shipping Awards will serve to support these efforts and reward any company with the vision and expertise to develop good environmental solutions.”

Oasis of the Seas to Feature Award-Winning Musical ‘Hairspray’
Courtesy of Royal Caribbean
The Tony award-winning Broadway-licensed musical, ‘Hairspray,’ is set to debut on Royal Caribbean International’s highly anticipated Oasis of the Seas when the ship sets sail from Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in December 2009. One of two productions to take place in the ship’s grand Opal Theater, Hairspray will open with a wide array of cruise industry firsts that the cruise line will debut with the launch of Oasis of the Seas and is another addition to its diverse entertainment offerings.

“We are thrilled to bring to our guests a ground-breaking entertainment feature such as Hairspray on Oasis of the Seas,” said Peter Compton, vice president, Entertainment, Royal Caribbean International. “The addition of this popular musical to Royal Caribbean’s entertainment lineup will undoubtedly take cruise entertainment to the next level and cater to the evolving tastes of vacationers. Guests will be able to enjoy an award-winning Broadway-caliber production on Oasis of the Seas along with a myriad of revolutionary onboard amenities for a most memorable cruise vacation.”
The show is licensed to Royal Caribbean International for three years aboard Oasis of the Seas with an option for a fourth year. Under the agreement, which was struck with the aid of New York City-based Music Theater International and Broadway Theatrical, the show will be available exclusively to the cruise line, ensuring the ‘feel good’ performance will be the only of its kind at sea.

“All of us are delighted that Hairspray will set sail on Oasis of the Seas, the biggest, boldest and most exciting cruise ship,” said Margo Lion, Tony Award winning producer of Hairspray. “Just like the show’s heroine Tracy Turnblad, Oasis of the Seas will change the world!” Hairspray earned a total of eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical, during its near sevenyear run on Broadway, which came to an end in early January and is currently playing in London’s West End. Set in 1962, the show follows the story of Tracy Turnblad, a big girl with big aspirations who wins a spot on the local TV dance program, “The Corny Collins Show” and finds herself transformed into an overnight teen sensation.
While the show has been trimmed just slightly to fit within the average 90-minute run time, consistent with Royal Caribbean’s theater productions, guests and Hairspray fans will be pleased to find that the hottest, high-energy numbers will remain on the playbill. The show will be offered three or four times on each seven-night cruise itinerary, ensuring that guests have the opportunity to see the show at their leisure during their vacation.

Guests Have ‘Gotta Dance’ On A Royal Caribbean Vacation
Courtesy of Royal Caribbean
New Hip Hop Dance Program Offers Guests Of All Ages The Opportunity To Live The Dream
A new Hip Hop dance adventure that transcends all ages, languages, and skill levels is taking Royal Caribbean ships by storm. Royal Caribbean International’s new Gotta Dance program is offering guests the opportunity to let loose, chase a dream, and ‘wow’ their cruisemates with cool new dance moves. Based on the documentary film by Dori Berinstein, awardwinning director and producer of film, theater and television, the guest-participatory Gotta Dance experience is being exclusively offered by Royal Caribbean International and will be offered fleetwide in summer 2009.
“Gotta Dance is the newest Royal Caribbean International program that offers guests an opportunity to try something different on their vacation regardless of age and experience,” said Peter Compton, vice president, Entertainment, Royal Caribbean International. ”Every age is welcome and no experience is necessary. As with many of our onboard programs, Gotta Dance helps bring families closer together and build lasting relationships among guests for an unforgettable cruise vacation.”
Royal Caribbean’s Gotta Dance is inspired by the award-winning documentary film of the same name, which will hit the big screen across the United States beginning in July 2009. Gotta Dance (www.GottaDanceTheMovie.com) chronicles the first-ever senior-citizen, hip-hop dance troupe for the New Jersey Nets Basketball Team. Just like the film, Royal Caribbean’s Gotta Dance program will offer guests, from the young to the young-at-heart, a chance to grab their moment in the spotlight.
Kicking off each cruise will be a special screening of the film. Guests sailing on select ships before the nationwide roll-out of the movie will be treated to an advanced viewing of Gotta Dance. Participants will then be divided into teams and, over the course of their vacation, will learn choreographed routines with a member of the Royal Caribbean dance team in rehearsals during sea days. The program will culminate with the main event – a farewell show on the last evening of the cruise, whereby each of the teams will perform their routines in the ship’s main theater.
Each of the groups will perform a different routine, all of which were choreographed by New Jersey Nets Dance Coach Kimberlee Garris, who also appears in the Gotta Dance film. For each song an easy and more complex choreography has been designed, and Royal Caribbean’s Gotta Dance instructors will have the option of tweaking these versions further based on group skill level. Royal Caribbean International is a global cruise brand with 20 ships currently in service and two under construction. The line also offers unique cruisetour vacations in Alaska, Canada, Dubai, Europe, and Australia and New Zealand.

Royal Caribbean Resumes Port Calls in Mexico
Courtesy of Royal Caribbean
As you may be aware, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has downgraded its previous “Travel Alert” regarding travel to Mexico to a “Travel Health Precaution for Mexico.” We applaud this decision, and like your clients we are anxious to return to Mexico.
Royal Caribbean ships will resume their port calls in Cozumel, Mexico, beginning with sailings that depart on or after May 24, 2009. The ships that normally visit Cozumel at this time are
Freedom of the Seas®, Liberty of the Seas® and Enchantment of the Seas®.
Mariner of the Seas®, which normally visits Mexico’s west coast at this time, will continue its modified Pacific Northwest itinerary, up to and including, its June 14 sailing.
We will continue to utilize our Influenza Prevention and Response Plans, which our office of Medical and Public Health developed in coordination with the CDC and other health experts. The
plan is based on three pillars:
- Preparedness and Communication.
- Surveillance and Detection.
- Response and Containment.
Some of the proactive measures we will continue to take throughout our fleet include:
- Providing guests with H1N1 flu information from the CDC
- Screening all guests, crew members and visitors to our ships, to identify any flu-like symptoms
- Conducting enhanced sanitizing of all high-touch areas onboard
- Providing hand sanitizers throughout all ships
- Asking guests to follow the advice of medical experts regarding the best ways to help prevent the spread of flu and other illnesses – via proper and frequent hand washing, and covering the mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing.
- And, if necessary, our onboard medical staff can isolate and treat guests or crew members who display flu-like symptoms, using the supply of anti-viral medications kept onboard all our ships
Like you, we take all health matters seriously. Should you or your clients be interested in additional information regarding the H1N1 flu, please visit the CDC website at: www.cdc.gov
We’re excited to return to Mexico, and we appreciate your understanding of our concern for your client’s health and well being.

Courtesy of Royal Caribbean International
A cruise vacation gives families a chance to spend time together and say “why not” to an almost unlimited number of activities and adventures, both onshore and onboard. Or parents can rest easy while kids hang out with their peers in various kids and teen only lounges. Royal Caribbean’s ships are also ideal for some friendly family competition with a race to the top on their famous rock wall or a round of mini-golf, then try inline skating or book a private surfing session on the FlowRider®–an amazing wave simulator.
Their newest ships, Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas, take family cruising to a whole new level. Their BoardwalkSM neighborhood is a tribute to old-fashioned seaside amusement parks and features an arcade, an exhilarating Zip Line, and the world’s first at-sea Carousel. Oasis and Allure of the Seas are also host to the AquaTheater, a specialty venue featuring world-class high-dive acrobatics, synchronized swimming, and dazzling fountain & light shows.
Family Destinations and Shore & Land Excursions
Royal Caribbean’s private destinations, CocoCay® and Labadee®, have all the makings of a perfect family adventure. Both islands offer pristine beaches and spectacular scenery and Family Beach Activities, but kids will be most fascinated by state-of-the-art Aqua Parks and Labadee Luc’s Splash Bash. Older kids can try parasailing, snorkeling–or, for a truly wild adventure, they can soar along Labadee’s new Mile Long Zip Line. Younger children (ages 3 to 8), accompanied by their parents, can experience a special driving adventure on the Fisher-Price Power Wheels® Track, featured on CocoCay.
With the huge variety of shore & land excursions offered at all Royal Caribbean destinations, you’re sure to find many that are suitable for the entire family. Sightsee, snorkel, explore ancient ruins or investigate a city museum- there is an excursion to match any taste or activity level.
Royal Babies & Royal Tots
Join your 6- to 36-month-old in the fun of Royal Babies and Royal Tots, interactive playgroup sessions developed by early childhood experts at Fisher-Price®. Each 45-minute session* offers age-appropriate activities that expose children to new experiences while seamlessly combining playtime with learning time. Royal Caribbean’s 12-14 and 15-17 Teen groups give them the freedom to come and go as they please for sports, themed parties, movie nights and more. Teens can also meet up and chill out in the laid-back Living Room lounge, or cut loose at Fuel, our teen-only nightclub.
To participate in Adventure Ocean, children must be three years of age and potty-trained (no pull-ups or diapers). Parents can feel confident leaving their children with us because every staff member of our Adventure Ocean and Teen programs holds a college degree in education, recreation, or related field and has experience working with children ages 3-17. All are certified in CPR.
Eat, Drink and Be Merry
In addition to our Fisher Price Activities Menu and Juice and Unlimited Soda Packages for families, we’ve enhanced our family dining experience so parents and kids can have a more enjoyable vacation. Royal Caribbean temporarily suspends port calls in Mexico
Courtesy of Royal Caribbean International
UPDATE: Royal Caribbean Has Resumed Port Calls in Mexico
Royal Caribbean International has temporarily suspended its port calls in Mexico. The decision was made in an abundance of caution, and to allow additional time to better understand the full impact of the Swine Flu.
The temporary suspension involves four of our ships currently making regularly scheduled port call in Mexico – Enchantment of the Seas, Freedom of the Seas, Liberty of the Seas and Mariner of the Seas. It also involves one additional ship scheduled to make upcoming Mexico port calls as it repositions – Radiance of the Seas. The revised sailings for each ship will be as follows:
Enchantment of the Seas
- Its five-night sailings that depart Port Everglades on Mondays will replace their Cozumel port calls with additional time in Key West and an additional day at sea.
- Its four-night sailings that depart Port Everglades on Thursdays will replace their Cozumel port calls with additional time in Key West and port calls in Nassau, Bahamas.
- Its five-night sailings that depart Port Everglades on Saturdays will replace their Cozumel port calls with port calls in Ocho Rios, Jamaica, with two exceptions. Sailings on May 2 and May 16 will replace their Cozumel port calls with port calls in Montego Bay, Jamaica.
Freedom of the Seas
- Its seven-night sailings that depart Port Canaveral on Sundays will replace their Cozumel port calls with additional time in George Town, Cayman Islands, and an additional day at sea.
Liberty of the Seas
- Its seven-night sailings that depart Miami on Saturdays will replace their Cozumel port calls with port calls in Coco Cay, Bahamas.
Mariner of the Seas
- Its seven-night sailings that depart Los Angeles on Sundays will sail a fully revised itinerary, visiting Canada and the U.S. West Coast. It will now visit San Francisco, California, Mondays from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m.; Victoria, British Columbia, Wednesdays from noon to 10 p.m.; and Seattle, Washington, Thursdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- The ship’s May 10 sailing will feature a port call in Astoria, Oregon, rather than San Francisco.
At the current time, our revised itineraries for Mariner of the Seas are scheduled to take place up to and including the ship’s June 14 sailing. - Mariner of the Seas guests booked on a revised sailing are encouraged to contact their travel agent or Royal Caribbean International for compensation and rebooking options.
We have established a special help desk to assist these guests. The toll-free is: 1-800-327-6700.
Please note that the weather on the revised itinerary is considerably colder. Guests should remember to pack clothing that is appropriate for this new itinerary.
Radiance of the Seas
- On its current sailing, it will replace its port calls in Huatulco, Puerto Vallarta and Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, with an extended, overnight port call in San Diego, California, and additional time at sea.
Like our guests, we take all health matters seriously. Although authorities have not raised specific concerns regarding the ports we visit in Mexico, we want to err on the side of caution. We’re taking proactive steps onboard our ships to help ensure the health and well-being of our guests and crew members, and this is just one more step in that process. We apologize for the disruption these changes will cause our guests, and we appreciate their understanding.
We continue to closely monitor Swine Flu developments and utilize our Influenza Prevention and Response Plans. That plan was developed by our office of Medical and Public Health in coordination with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other health experts. The plan is based on three pillars: Preparedness and Communication; Surveillance and Detection; and Response and Containment.
Our Swine Flu activities include:
- Providing guests with Swine Flu information from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
- Screening embarking guests and crew members regarding recent visits to, or travel through Mexico, contact with people ill with the Swine Flu, and for recent flu-like symptoms
- And, if necessary, onboard medical staff can isolate and treat guests or crew members who display flu-like symptoms, using the supply of anti-viral medications kept onboard all ships.
We’ll continue to closely follow developments regarding the Swine Flu. Additional information regarding the Swine Flu is available at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website: www.cdc.gov

What is a Royal Caribbean Cruisetour?
Courtesy of Royal Caribbean
Cruisetours offer the best of land and sea vacations by combining your Alaska, Europe, Australia/New Zealand, Asia and South America cruise with an exciting land tour adventure. And as anyone who’s traveled before knows, coastal areas are beautiful, but some of the most interesting cities and sights are often inland.
On a cruisetour, you’re able to see everything – fabulous ports of call along the coast, and magnificent cities and sights located inland.
All of Royal Caribbean’s Alaska, Europe, Australia/New Zealand, Asia and South America cruisetours are 100% escorted by expert Tour Guides and have been designed to maximize your time spent sightseeing on many of the inclusive tours, as well as give you the opportunity to explore on your own. And in most cases, you can decide to take the land tour portion either before or after your cruise.
But the bigger decision will be where to take your adventure. Royal Caribbean offers twenty-one cruisetour packages to Alaska, two cruisetour packages to the Canadian Rockies – two to the premier resort town of Whistler – four cruisetour packages to Europe, two cruisetour packages to Asia, three cruisetour packages to Australia/New Zealand and two cruisetour packages to South America.
In addition to your cruise vacation, the land portion of the cruisetour includes accommodations in some of the finest hotels in Alaska, 4 and 5 star hotel properties in Europe, Australia/New Zealand, Asia and South America; as well as many inclusive activities such as city tours, a visit to Denali National Park in Alaska, Quicksilver catamaran tour to the Great Barrier in Australia, a day exploring the Terracotta Warriors in China, and a zodiac ride through the Iguazu Falls in Argentina, just to name a few.
If you want the best of both worlds – a fantastic cruise vacation and a land tour adventure – a Royal Caribbean cruisetour is just what you’re looking for.
