Official Naming Ceremony of New Carnival Dream to Feature Marcia Gay Harden as Godmother

The official naming ceremony of Carnival Cruise Lines’ new cruise ship Carnival Dream featuring Academy Award- and Tony Award-winning actress Marcia Gay Harden in the role of ship’s godmother was broadcasted live on the company’s web site on Thursday, Nov. 12.

Live streaming video of the invitation-only event included an exhilarating dance performance, a nearly six-foot-tall champagne bottle and some other unexpected surprises. The ceremony was hosted by Carnival’s Senior Cruise Director John Heald while the 3,646-passenger Carnival Dream was docked in New York City.

A live chat offering viewers an opportunity to ask questions about the Carnival Dream and comment on the festivities took place during the webcast as, well.

The 130,000-ton Carnival Dream ushers in an exciting new era in “Fun Ship” cruising, offering a host of innovations. These include Carnival WaterWorks, an expansive aqua park featuring the longest water slide at sea; Ocean Plaza, a stunning indoor/outdoor café and live entertainment venue; more than 19,000 square feet of space dedicated to children and families; and a 23,750-square-foot Cloud 9 Spa, the largest in the line’s fleet.

Carnival Dream debuted in Europe Sept. 21 and will operate a series of voyages from New York before repositioning to Port Canaveral, Fla., to begin year-round Caribbean service Dec. 3.

Eight-Year Old to Serve as Godchild of Water Slide Aboard Carnival Dream

Carnival WaterWorksEight-year-old Hailee Steberger of Egg Harbor Township, N.J., is the winner of Carnival Cruise Lines’ “Virtual Book of Dreams” contest, earning the opportunity to serve as the official godchild of the expansive water park aboard the new Carnival Dream.  At 130,000 tons, Carnival Dream is the line’s newest and largest ship and will make its U.S. debut in November.

Hailee and her family will travel to New York next month to christen the Carnival Dream’s spectacular WaterWorks aqua park, which features the longest water slide on a cruise ship. The family will also receive a free cruise. [Read more →]

Carnival Dream to Offer Amazing High-Energy Laser Shows

Carnival DreamCarnival Cruise Lines’ new 130,000-ton Carnival Dream will introduce the line’s first outdoor laser shows that will combine the latest in laser technology with rock music to provide guests a unique and exciting nighttime entertainment option.  Carnival Dream’s laser shows will be the first ever for a North America–based cruise ship.

The 15-minute nighttime laser shows will feature choreographed lasers projecting brilliant aerial patterns of blue, red and green set to music by popular artists such as Styx, Rush, Van Halen, Boston and Pink Floyd. [Read more →]
