Alaska By Land and Sea

By Jaycee Portugal, Senior Cruise Consultant, The Cruise Web, Inc.

JayCee flying high above the Alaskan wildernessEveryone seems to have a  bucket list these days and so do I. I created mine last year and it seems my list keeps getting longer and longer as I learn more and more about the world. I am fortunate enough to be in an industry where most of the things I have on my list, I can easily check off. And that is just what I did last month when what was supposed to be just a business trip to Alaska turned into an amazing experience. [Read more →]

Alaska Cruise: In Pictures

By The Cruise Web, Inc.

Our resident videographer Barry Vaudrin recently returned from a 7-night cruise from Seattle to Alaska and back on the ms Oosterdam, a Holland America Line ship. While Barry is working to compile all the video he took of the cruise and excursions, he has provided us with a sampling of pictures that chronicle his adventure. Starting with his tour of Seattle.

Before embarking I took a tour of Seattle. The Space Needle in Seattle has a different color painted on the top, an orange color, which is supposedly the original color. Apparently the color will soon be changed because many don’t like the orange Space Needle color.

The Iditarod: An Alaskan Tradition

By The Cruise Web, Inc.

Alaska is known as The Last Frontier and nothing exemplifies that motto more than the Iditarod race, which is in its 40th year. The race pays tribute to the 49th state’s sled dogs, which helped settle the state by transporting mail, groceries and even gold across the state’s vast wilderness.

The Iditarod has become one of Alaska’s most popular events and many cruise lines have excursions and cruisetours that put you right in the middle of the action. There are opportunities to try your hand at mushing. You can talk with former Iditarod winners and meet some huskie dogs that have or will participate in the race.

Keep reading to find out more about The Iditarod.

Cruising Alaska

by Kevin Sweigard, Senior Cruise Consultant, The Cruise Web, Inc.

Alaska is one of the most scenic places on earth. Snow-capped mountains, giant calving glaciers, bald eagles, glacier-carved fjords, abundant wildlife, and quaint little towns – now that’s Alaska! It’s nature at it’s best. And the best way to see Alaska is on a cruise or cruise tour.

View this spectacular nature and the awesome scenery as you cruise the inside passage. You may see black bears or grizzly bears along the shore line, or seals lounging on floating icebergs. You’ll get an even better view of this unforgettable wildlife with binoculars — so don’t forget them! Be sure to also bring a camera with zoom capabilities to capture this amazing scenery!
