Our resident videographer Barry Vaudrin recently returned from a 7-night cruise from Seattle to Alaska and back on the ms Oosterdam, a Holland America Line ship. While Barry is working to compile all the video he took of the cruise and excursions, he has provided us with a sampling of pictures that chronicle his adventure. Starting with his tour of Seattle.
Before embarking I took a tour of Seattle. The Space Needle in Seattle has a different color painted on the top, an orange color, which is supposedly the original color. Apparently the color will soon be changed because many don’t like the orange Space Needle color.
During our cruise to Alaska, we saw an incredible fjord and glacier called Tracy Arm. You could nearly touch the mountains as Oosterdam passed through Tracy Arm. It was beautiful!
I did see one bear during my visit to Alaska during a great shore excursion in Juneau that included whale watching.
There were plenty of activities onboard too. The head chef did a great demonstration where we learned how to cook a special dessert – one of the many excellent opportunities to learn a new skill during your Alaska cruise vacation.
Sitka is a beautiful little town with many fishing boats and loads of history. It was in Sitka that Alaska became one of the United States of America. This is a picture perfect port with much to see including the Raptor Center that is home to many bald eagles.
There were a plethora of excellent desserts onboard, not to mention delicious food.
Stay tuned to the blog for videos documenting Barry’s Alaskan adventure.
For those interested in an Alaskan cruise, we at The Cruise Web recommend an itinerary that includes a stop along Tracy Arm, which is a fjord named after a civil war general. This land is home to beautiful glaciers, rustic wildlife and exciting excursions.
