The Cruise Web Gets Hawaiian at Ensemble Executive Retreat
By Mike Harris, Sales Manager, The Cruise Web, Inc.
Recently, Ensemble Travel Group invited executives and managers from top agencies to participate in the first annual Executive Retreat at the Makena Beach & Golf Resort in Maui, Hawaii. The retreat was the first of its kind for Ensemble and The Cruise Web. Ensemble Travel Group partners with The Cruise Web to provide our clients with unique services and experiences all over the world. The focus of this retreat was on improving creativity to enhance communications with employees and customers.
I was fortunate enough to attend the retreat with my wife, Amy. The four-day event was jam-packed with activities for all that attended. A team building event called “road rally” was a scavenger hunt involving teams of executives, managers, and travel vendors racing to complete various tasks and riddles. The road rally was great fun. Not only was it a great way to see the island, but also build some camaraderie among industry peers. There was also a traditional Hawaiian luau, complete with the roasted pig and a fire-throwing contest.
In between all the fun, there was also business to discuss. The keynote speaker was John Sweeney, Owner and professional speaker of Brave New Workshop Comedy Theater in Minneapolis, Minnesota. John designed a four-day program that incorporated the principles of improvisational theater towards improving communication, promoting enthusiasm and rehearsing the art of idea generation.
The speaker was amazing. When I first read that the owner of an improv theater was the keynote speaker, I was admittedly a bit skeptical. I never realized the many connections between improv and my everyday professional life. I felt very confident going back to the office to help my team provide a better experience for our clients and to help The Cruise Web grow as a company.
