My Antarctic Adventure

By Jacques Botty, Senior Cruise Consultant, The Cruise Web.

Antartic Ice CliffIt had been a long-time dream of mine to visit Antarctica and I’m proud to say that I finally turned that dream into a reality this past November. Setting foot on the great white icy continent easily tops my life’s greatest experiences. Plus, the trip bestowed upon me an even greater appreciation for the wildlife conservation and research efforts in the Antarctic – something I now strongly advocate and donate to.

My trip, like most Antarctica expeditions, started in Ushuaia, Argentina – a city that prides itself on being the world’s southernmost city. Large mountains and the Tierra del Fuego National Park surround Ushuaia and Patagonia. After spending some time in the city, where popular activities include nature hikes, fishing and horseback riding, we headed out to sea and began our expedition.

Wildlife Sightings

A compilation from The Cruise Web employees.

Many of our employees have been fortunate enough to experience the beauty of wildlife in its natural habitat, whether from a ship, underwater, or on good ol’ dry land. From any vantage point, it’s truly incredible (if sometimes scary) to witness animals in the wild.

Arthur B.
While on our cruise expedition to Central America on Silversea’s Prince Albert II we had many wildlife encounters. It was exciting to see a pod of playful dolphins outside our window or a couple of whales breaching less than 100 Blue Footed Boobiesyards away. On land, we stumbled upon a sleeping python and very friendly capuchin monkeys. However, my favorite was at a stop on Isla de Plata off the coast of Ecuador known as Little Galapagos. We walked among colonies of blue-footed boobies and frigate birds – beautiful creatures and absolutely not afraid of humans. [Read more →]

President’s Message – A New Year to Appreciate!

By Frans Hansen, President, The Cruise Web.

Ice Hockey SkatesIt was a little painful bending over to tie my shoes this Monday morning.  It’s all good, though. I was just sore from playing pond hockey two days in a row, three to four hours per day, with my two young boys.  Ponds don’t often freeze over thoroughly in the Washington, DC area, and last year when our pond did, it was ‘un-skateable’ with three to five feet of snow on it. This weekend it was skateable and we jumped on the opportunity, bringing out the old ice skates and hockey sticks.

Plopping down for breaks between our unofficial hockey ‘periods’, it was easy to appreciate the scene of a beautiful glistening frozen pond speckled with skating and laughing neighborhood children, all surrounded by winter woods. I plan to do much more of this. No, don’t worry lower back — not to play ice hockey three to four hours every day. It’s my Snow Covered Forest2011 New Year’s resolution to appreciate everything.  This may sound easy enough for someone as fortunate as me — someone who has beautiful and healthy children, his own health, loving family, great friends, a successful business, superb company managers, wonderful employees, and a nice home in a terrific neighborhood that’s part of an outstanding school system. Sailing Goodbye to 2010

A compilation from The Cruise Web employees.

Does the Holiday Season stress you out and leave you feeling beyond exhausted when it’s all over? Well, a few lucky Cruise Web employees were able to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the holiday season and set sail on a cruise vacation. While the rest of the office was tired and cold from the holiday, these employees came back relaxed and well-rested. They were able to share the joys of traveling during the holiday season. I wouldn’t be surprised if next year a few more employees escape during the holidays for some rest and relaxation!

Brandon B.
SunsetI came home from my cruise on Regent’s Seven Seas Voyager feeling one thing, relaxed! The seven-night itinerary took me to Mexico, Belize and Guatemala, areas rich in their Mayan roots.  I did manage some site-seeing, but spent a majority of this cruise enjoying Regent’s luxurious, all-inclusvie atmosphere.  If you need a quick getaway to recharge your batteries, this is the cruise for you!

Rashell O.
Cruising is always a great way to travel, especially over the holidays. This Thanksgiving I decided to throw out my apron and my shopping list and instead sail away on a relaxing cruise with my good friend. What a wonderful trip – four ports, great food, championship gambling and free movies! What more could I ask for? [Read more →]
