It has been said that there is a third dimension to traveling: the longing for what is beyond. What lies behind the ancient walled city of Medina? What new surprise waits around the corner in Barcelona? What secrets lie within the fabled ruins of Pompeii? When you experience Europe with Windstar, the answers are revealed with each new moment. Slip into smaller ports such as Portofino and St. Florent to discover hidden wonders that are off-limits to other travelers. Watch a Corsican fisherman unload the fresh catch of the day. See a lace maker at work in medieval Dubrovnik. Soak up the sun on some of Europe's most exclusive beaches, including Ibiza, St. Tropez, Sardinia and Mykonos. In Europe, what lies beyond is as vast and varied as your individual interests. Grab a cup of coffee, find your favorite spot on deck and wait, just wait, to see what unfurls.
Ports of call: Piraeus (Athens), Greece; Mykonos, Greece; Santorini, Greece; Rhodes, Greece; Didim, Turkey; Kusadasi, Turkey; Istanbul, Turkey.

Sample Shore Excursions:
- Athens Acropolis Tour Add-On
for Airport or Hotel Transfers
Tour ATH 021
Approximately 3.5 hours
Milton called Athens "the eye of Greece,
mother of arts and eloquence." The ancient
remains of Athens today constitute one of
the brightest jewels of the Mediterranean.
It will quickly become evident that half
the population of Greece lives in Athens,
and despite this, the Ancient City and the
Acropolis have been kept fairly intact. Perhaps
the most famous temple of the Ancient City
is the Parthenon, dedicated to the patron Goddess of Athens, Athena. Walking up
a winding path towards the Acropolis you
will pass through the Propylaea and see the
Erechtheum temple and the Porch of the
Caryatids in the distance. Reinforced by
the hand of man, the natural fortress of the
Acropolis stands 230 feet above the city. You
cannot help but be in awe of the view below.
On a scenic drive through the city, you will
pass Adrian’s Arch, the statue of Lord Byron,
and the Temple of Olympian Zeus, which
took 700 years to complete. Continuing on
towards Constitution Square, you will pass
the former Royal Palace where the Evzones,
members of the National Guard, keep watch
in their traditional costume over the Tomb of
the Unknown Warrior. You will see the allmarble
Olympic Stadium built for the modern
Olympic Games in 1896. You will pass the
National Gardens, drive along University
Street and see its neoclassical buildings, some
of which are the Academy, the University and
the Library.

Sample Shore Excursions:
- A Visit to Delos
Tour JMK001
Approximately 4.5 hours
Delos was the birth place of Apollo and
his twin sister Artemis - children of Zeus
and Leto. The sacred island is a UNESCO
World Heritage Site, and while it is
uninhabited today, the first settlements here
date to the 3rd millennium BC. The ruins
of Delos are numerous and important—the
Sanctuary of Apollo complex, the area of the
Sacred Lake (which dried up in 1926), the
Terrace of Lions, the sanctuaries on Cynthus,
the theater district, and the commercial harbor
district. Board the local ferry from the tender
pier in Mykonos and cross to the ancient site
of Delos. A walking tour will enable you to
see one of the most respected and revered
sanctuaries of antiquity.

Sample Shore Excursions:
- Oia, Sigalas Winery
& Nomikos Foundation
Tour JTR 003
Approximately 4 hours
The first stop on your tour will be the village
of Oia, perhaps the most beautiful village on
the island. It was almost completely destroyed
in the 1956 earthquake, but has been slowly
restored continuing the ancient tradition of
dwellings excavated from the cliff face, with
the cave-like houses clinging to the slope
of volcanic rock. The most picturesque of
the two main village streets is paved with
marble and lined with tiny shops, cafes and
restaurants, all waiting to be explored. If you
prefer you can "lose yourself" in the maze
of tiny streets over the rock, looking at the strange and interesting houses, superb chapels,
and abandoned mansions. The views from the
cliff are quite amazing, offering the best photo
opportunities on this unique island. Next you
will visit the small winery of Sigalas. You will
have the opportunity to wander through the
vineyard and see the strange Santorini basketlike
vines, watch how the wine is produced
on the premises and then sample the results
yourself! Your final stop is at the Nomikos
Foundation. On display are fascinating threedimensional
photographic reproductions,
representing the prehistoric wall paintings of
Akrotiri. Catch a glimpse of what life was like
in the 17th century BC. The terrace in front
of the building offers great views of Fira, the
main town. Your tour ends with a ten-minute
walk down to the cable car station, or if you
prefer you may stay in town and return to the
ship at your leisure.

Sample Shore Excursions:
- A Walking Tour of
Old Rhodes Town
Tour RHO 003
Approximately 3 hours
This tour will take you on a beautiful walk
through the medieval town of Rhodes.
Entering from the Gate of Panagia Bourgou,
you will explore the main points of the town,
beginning with the Jewish Quarter. You will
walk past the Synagogue to reach the Turkish
District—today the busiest part of town.
As you proceed through the picturesque
cobblestone streets, you will pass the Mosque
of Suleiman, formerly the Church of the
Holy Apostles, which has an elegant Italian
Renaissance doorway. Next you will head to
the Palace of the Grand Masters. Built in the
14th century, in the northwest corner of the
ramparts, it looks more like a fortress than a
palace. It was converted into a prison by the
Turks, suffered damage in an explosion and
was finally restored by the Italians. It is built
around a central court paved with colorful
marbles, and contains superb Hellenistic and
Roman mosaics from neighboring islands.
Leaving the Palace of the Grand Masters,
continue down the Street of the Knights, with
its medieval buildings, towers and emblazoned
façades. It is in these 15th- and 16th-century
Gothic buildings that the Knights of the
Order of St. John lived according to their
native language. Upon arriving in Hospital
Square, you'll be free to either take the short
walk back to the port or stay in town for some
further exploring on your own. You will find
numerous cafés, restaurants and shops here.

Sample Shore Excursions:
- Ancient Houses of Ephesus
& the Celsus Library
Tour KUS 001
Approximately 4 hours
Magnificent Ephesus, a stunning standout
among the ancient ruins remaining in the
world today, awaits your discovery. Come see
this incredible city founded by the Carians
and Lelegs that later was to become the
honeymoon playground of Anthony and
Cleopatra. On your visit, don't miss the
glorious Celsus Library façade, restored and
reconstructed in the 1970s to its former
splendor, as well as the Grand Amphitheatre
that holds more than 25,000 people. To
put its presence into dazzling age-defying
perspective, this amphitheatre is the site where St. Paul preached to the Ephesians in the first
century AD, and where rocker Elton John held
an unforgettable concert 2,000 years later -
it's truly a venue for the millennia. You’ll also
see the Temple of Hadrian and take in the site
of one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient
World—the Temple of Artemis. Visit the
Terrace Houses located opposite Hadrian's
Temple, a newly excavated section to which
Windstar Cruises has specially negotiated
access. The wealthy and important people of
Ephesus used these houses, which are finely
decorated with mosaics and frescoes giving
a true impression of the ancient lifestyle.
Those on the upper slopes are reached via
steps and situated on the slopes of Bulbul
Mountain with the roof of one house forming
the terrace of the one above it. Upon your
return to Kusadasi, you may enjoy a carpet
demonstration and some time for shopping.
Explore the town and return to the ship on
your own.
