A Walking Tour Of Nagasaki Tour

Board a local tram and travel from the ship to the heart of Nagasaki. Walk to the Atomic Bomb Museum and the Atomic Bomb Hypocenter ' ground zero for the August 1945 blast ' before continuing to the Peace Memorial Park.

  • WHAT YOU VISIT
Peace Memorial Park - On August 9, 1945, Nagasaki became the second city to suffer a nuclear attack. Peace Memorial Park is located near Ground Zero, the center of the blast, and is home to a beautiful memorial fountain and the 30-foot-high "Statue of Peace."
Atomic Bomb Museum - On permanent exhibit are photographs taken in the city immediately after the atomic blast, as well as artifacts that survived the explosion.
Atomic Bomb Hypocenter (Ground Zero) - Located near the Atomic Bomb Museum, the monument marks the center of the atomic blast which leveled the city.

  • PHOTO OPPORTUNITY
One-Legged Torii Gate - This old stone gate lost one of its legs in the atomic blast. The gate has been preserved in its post-explosion state as a reminder of the destructive force of the bomb.

  • WHAT YOU SEE ALONG THE WAY
From the pier, walk approximately 10 minutes to the station and board a local city tram. Your approximately 20-minute ride to Peace Memorial Park travels through the city's bustling streets, offering a view of everyday life in Nagasaki.

  • SPECIAL NOTES
This tour involves 3 - 3 1/2 hours of walking and standing. Nagasaki is hilly; passengers must walk uphill, climb steep steps and walk over uneven surfaces. Passengers must be in good physical condition and wear comfortable, low-heeled walking shoes. No part of this tour is conducted by motorcoach.
Passengers should bring local currency for any purchases and a bottle of water.
This tour includes sensitive material including graphic pictures and displays on the atrocities of war.
The public tram is sometimes crowded and not designed with the comforts found in normal tourist transportation.
This tour will not operate on voyages M831 and M832 due to Nagasaki Kunchi Festival.
