Haines, Alaska
Cradled at the base of the Chilkat Peninsula, this picturesque town of Haines is located on America's longest fjord and boasts the largest annual gathering of American bald eagles. Home of the Tlingit people, this area was settled and renamed by missionaries in the late 1800s.
Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve -
Upwards of 4,000 bald eagles gather here to gorge on spawning salmon along the Chilkat River each fall. Naturalists and photographers from all over the world come to witness the sight.
American Eagle Foundation -
This organization serves to educate the public about our national symbol, the majestic eagle. They offer a variety of interesting and informational exhibits.
Fort William H. Seward - During the 1900s a U.S. army post was built. It was the first in Alaska and can still be easily seen from the sea. The installation was abandoned in 1946 and has since become a national historic site.

His center provides a home for numerous orphaned wild animals including bears, moose, wolves, Arctic fox, lynx, porcupine, pine marten, mink, reindeer and wolverines. Your interactive visit includes hands-on, face-to-face encounters and intimate close-up photography. As you venture through the center, learn about the behavior of these intriguing creatures and gain an understanding of the time and trust required to train them.

Tour the Haines Brewing Company, Alaska's smallest brewery with an annual production of 300 barrels. Meet the brewmeister and learn about the challenges of producing beer in this small town while you sample Dalton Trail Ale and Eldred Rock Amber.
Continue with a driving tour through downtown Haines, historic Fort William H. Seward and arrive at Dejon Delights, where locals buy their smoked salmon. Learn how experts smoke their catch using smoldering Alaska birch and black cottonwood and taste one-of-a-kind recipes such as Lookout Stout-smoked salmon and lemon-peppered smoked halibut. Your guide chooses locations based on the group's interest and the season. Some locations lend themselves to longer or shorter stops, depending on lighting, wildlife activity and weather. You may photograph bears along the Chilkoot River, an explosion of wildflowers with the Rainbow Glacier as a backdrop or young bald eagles exercising their wings at the edge of their nest.
Regardless of skill level or camera type, your guide works to insure everyone's photographic abilities are improved. Your guide suggests shots and discusses issues such as exposure, use of flash and depth of field. Group size is limited to ensure a comfortable and interactive atmosphere.
