This unique tour offers you a first-hand look at rural coastal living along the historic waterways of Clover Pass and Naha Bay in Ketchikan's wilderness backcountry. Travel by motorcoach to Salmon Falls Resort, and then board a high-speed streamlined jet boat to the quaint waterfront village of Loring. Along the way, you'll pass modern seaside homes, cabins and commercial operations that are accessible only by boat. The Alaskans who live here prefer the forests, wildlife and waterfowl of this great land, far from modern towns. This is an historic area, and your guide will have plenty of stories to share. Loring, situated on Naha Bay, was established in 1893 and at one time was the largest fishing port in Southeast Alaska. Before Ketchikan, it was the main port of entry for the Territory. Today, it is a small, quiet waterfront town. You'll hear all about its history. On the return to Ketchikan, your motorcoach will tour through the city.

Southeast Alaska is rich in logging history, and this tour relives those days of old. Although the singing of crosscut saws and the pounding of hand-held axes against virgin spruce are a thing of the past, they are kept alive in this show held in downtown Ketchikan, a short walk from your ship. In the old days of logging, hundreds of lumberjacks gathered just after the spring log drive to determine who was the best "jack" in Alaska. This show recreates those competitions. Cheer for your favorite as some of the finest lumberjacks around compete in springboard chopping, bucksawing, log rolling, axe throwing and tree climbing that ends in a 50-foot free fall. Hear stories of the grueling conditions the lumberjacks faced as you watch this bygone era come vividly alive.

Home to one of Alaska's premier salmon hatchery operations, you may actually see black bear hunt for their favorite meal, spawning salmon. After you disembark the plane, take a short hike along a maintained wilderness road to a viewing area.
