Halifax, Nova Scotia's vibrant capital city, is the business, educational, and cultural center of the Canadian Maritimes. A significant port city since its founding in 1749, Halifax is architecturally stunning with its 18th-century and 19th-century buildings juxtaposed with ultra-modern glass towers. All are framed by the backdrop of Halifax Harbor, the second-largest year-round harbor in the world.

This morning your tour begins with a guided tour of the city highlights that will take you past St. Paul's Church, City Hall, The Old Town Clock and Province House. Your first stop will be for a bagpiper-led walk through the beautiful public gardens, one of the oldest examples of Victorian public gardens in North America.

Your next stop is the Halifax Citadel, Canada's most-visited national historic site. It has been commemorated as a significant symbol of Halifax's important role in Canada's development and evolution from colony to nation. From there you'll visit Citadel Hill National Historic Site, home of the 78th Highlanders. This was the site of 4 different British forts; the first in 1749 and the last completed in 1856. Today the Citadel has been restored to look much as it did in 1856. The stone fortress offers panoramic vistas of the city and the harbor and the amazing architecture of downtown.

Following your stop at Citadel Hill, you'll discover more of Halifax with a visit to the Fairview Cemetery. Here row upon row of identical gravestones, laid out in the shape of a ship's hull, mark the final resting place of 150 victims of the Titanic sinking. History tells how the White Star Line chartered four Canadian vessels to assist in recovery of the victims. Hear about the efforts of the people of Halifax, and their role in identifying the victims and bringing them to their final resting place, the Fairview Cemetery.

Your tour continues with a truly unique opportunity to visit Canada's oldest private club, The Halifax Club. Established in 1862, it was created to provide a "friendly, professional and private retreat for the exclusive pleasure of members and their guests." You will enjoy refreshments in this beautiful and historical setting.

Following refreshments, it will be time to rejoin your coach for the scenic return to the pier and your ship, bearing a greater appreciation for the history and culture of Halifax.
